KEY PROPERTIES
For use in treating lube oil emulsions containing oil, water and heavy metals (ash). OT 775 is a De-Ashing demulsifier designed to typically reduce the Ash content of treated emulsions by up to 80 − 90%.
Note − This is a two part process using demulsifier OT 775 together with Sulphuric Acid. It is important to use only treatment tanks with a corrosion resistant construction.
APPLICATION
The process requires a treatment-tank, which, preferably, has the following options:
- Corrosion resistant construction (i.e. plastic or coated/lined steel) preferred.
- Mixing or circulating facility (bottom to top).
- Heating-facility or heat-exchanger installed in the circulating system.
- Insulation: in order to maintain the temperature during the setting-process.
- Injection-pump: to add the demulsifier into the oil.
The Process consists of the following steps:
- Fill the treatment tank with the oil-emulsion to be treated.
- Sample the tank contents to determine the water-content in the oil.
- If necessary, add extra water and mix in to ensure a total water-content of
approximately 20%.
- Heat the oil/water mixture to 80°C.
- Add sulphuric acid to the tank at typically 2,500 ppmv (2.5 litres per m3).
- Ensure good mixing during and after adding the sulphuric acid.
- Add Demulsifier OT 775 to the tank (normally between 2,500 and
5,000 ppmv).
- Ensure good mixing during and after adding the demulsifier.
- Stop the mixing/circulating and shut off the heating.
- Leave the contents of the tank to settle for one to three days.
After the settling period the water-phase should be separated at the bottom of the tank. Normally this water-phase is quite acidic: pH=~2. The discharged water-phase will be slightly corrosive, and adequate protection measures are required (Settling tanks, pipelines etc). There will be a thin interphase layer present containing water, oil and “sediments”. Top phase will be the oil, containing typically less than 0.5% of water: the ash-content will be reduced by 80 to 90% compared to the original waste oil to be treated.
